Confused about Hilton Head’s Town Council redistricting? How to verify your new ward
Are you confused about which Town Council ward you’re in now that the town of Hilton Head Island has completed its redistricting process and has redrawn its local political boundaries?
The town has an online tool to help you navigate the changes to the island’s six Town Council wards: bit.ly/HiltonHeadRedistricting
You can input your address into the tool, or click on the accompanying map, to determine which ward you’re in and which Town Council member currently represents you.
The Town Council approved the new boundaries on April 5 in a 7-0 vote. The changes will be in effect for the November general election.
The wards had to be redrawn to more closely match the 2020 population numbers released by the U.S. Census Bureau last year.
Hilton Head’s population increased by 1.5% between 2010 and 2020 to 37,661 people.
Matthew Carey, the town’s geographic information system administrator, previously said there were several major changes to Hilton Head’s ward boundaries in the new map:
The Forest Beach area, including properties along North Forest Beach Drive and South Forest Beach Drive, was moved from Wards 4 and 5 into Ward 3 (almost 1,200 people).
The majority of Point Comfort was moved from Ward 3 into Ward 5, which covers Sea Pines (about 1,120 people).
Properties wedged between Spanish Wells Road and the Cross Island Parkway, including in Jarvis Creek Club, were moved from Ward 1 into Ward 4 (just over 410 people).
The Folly Field neighborhood was moved from Ward 6 into Ward 4 (almost 370 people).
The Hickory Forest Beach and Dolphin Head areas of Hilton Head Plantation were moved from Ward 2 into Ward 6 (about 560 people).
If you have questions or want additional information about your ward, you can contact the town at (843) 341-4600.
