Longtime Hilton Head resident announces candidacy for mayor in November election
Longtime Hilton Head resident and senior loan officer Alan Perry announced his candidacy for mayor of the island on Monday.
The election will be held on Nov. 8.
“While the election is more than 8 months away, I believe it is important to start early and get the process moving forward,” he said in a news release. “Hilton Head Island has welcomed many new residents over the past few years. Starting my campaign now will allow more time for my message to be shared with them and for me to meet with more constituents and hear their concerns.”
Perry, who is married and has four adult children, has been a resident of Hilton Head since 1974. He works for Mortgage Network.
He unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 2018, when John McCann was elected.
Perry is vice chair of the island Planning Commission and is a member of the PPI committee, which is tasked with informing the public about flood risks and preparedness.
He is past president and a board member of the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association, and is co-chair for the island’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He’s also served with People for Parks, RBC Heritage golf tournament, United Way, Junior Leadership and Wells East POA.
Perry is the first candidate to formally announce intentions to run for Hilton Head mayor.
