Q&A with the Beaufort mayor candidates. Here’s what they told us in our voter guide
Voters in the City of Beaufort are choosing a new mayor in the Nov. 3 general election.
Former councilman Mike Sutton, 62, and current councilman Stephen Murray, 39, are on the ballot. The race is non-partisan.
Mayor Billy Keyserling, who championed the National Monument to the Reconstruction Era and opposed oil drilling off South Carolina’s coast, has been Beaufort’s mayor since 2008 but decided earlier this year not to run for a fourth term.
Some of the issues the new mayor will face are related to COVID-19, but workforce issues, the impact of development and growth, homelessness in the city, and the increased potential for storms and flooding are all on the minds of voters.
Find out more about Sutton and Murray, and read what both of the candidates told us when we sent them questions for our voter guide.
