Protesters of the tax bill brave cold and rain to deliver message to Rep. Mark Sanford

More than 75 people braved Beaufort’s cold and rainy weather to protest U.S. Representative Mark Sanford’s support of the tax bill on Friday afternoon.

The protest, organized by Indivisible Beaufort S.C., was a response to Sanford’s support of the controversial tax bill that is currently working its way through the reconciliation process after being passed by both the house and senate.

“Sanford has claimed to oppose deficit spending, but yet he supports a bill that is expected to raise the national deficit by more than $1 trillion over the next 10 years.” Alison Davidow, leader of Indivisible Beaufort S.C. said. “This bill does not shrink the government, it just stops paying for it.”

Protestors came from Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Sun City and Beaufort to share their views with Sanford, who was not in town Friday, and to sign a petition.
