Meet ‘The Progressive Liberal’ — wrestling’s Hillary-and-Bernie-loving villain

He gets booed a lot, according to the Washington Post.

Maybe it’s the blue donkeys on his wrestling outfit. Maybe it’s a T-shirt he might wear, one plastered with Hillary Clinton photos.

Maybe it’s lines like this, reported by the Post’s Travis M. Andrews, that he hurls at jeering crowds watching him perform in the Kentucky-based Appalachian Mountain Wrestling circuit: “You know what, I think Bernie Sanders would make a great secretary of state.”

It’s all of these things — Daniel Harnsberger, AKA “Daniel Richards The Progressive Liberal,” is a perfect “heel,” as wrestling villains have long been called.

Here’s how he describes himself in the “about” section of his Facebook page: “I preach the virtues of democratic socialism. Then in the ring I conquer the heroes of the "conservatives" who defy my message.”

The kicker: maybe he’s not fully in character. Harnsberger recently told Sports Illustrated he “voted for Hillary.”

Harnsberger, 36, from Richmond, Va., is a real estate agent who’s side gig is wrestling in the Appalachian region, according to Sports Illustrated.

He’s recently been featured on Breitbart, MSNBC, Deadspin and, as of 10 hours ago, Milo Yiannopoulos’ website.

You can see him in action on Friday, June 30, at Wolfe County High School in Campton, Ky., according to his Facebook page.
