‘Ban the ban’ forces prevail in Tybee Island alcohol fight

Staff illustration

An alcohol ban proposed for Tybee Island in a bid to cut down on spring break unruliness has been defeated.

Tybee's city council voted 4-2 against the ban Feb. 9, according to WSAV.

The prosposal brought by Mayor Jason Buelterman would have prohibited alcohol on any Tybee beach from March through the first Saturday in May.

The potential ordinance was protested by island businesses, who organized an angry march prior to the meeting.
