Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t speak to the media following Sunday’s loss to the Chargers because he had left the game with a left knee injury.

The Chiefs said on social media that Mahomes has a torn ACL in his left knee and that he and the team are “are currently exploring surgical options.”

Shortly before that announcement, Mahomes shared an emotional message on social media. Mahomes, 30, admitted the injury was tough to take, but also thanked fans and promised he would return.

“Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie (it)hurts,” Mahomes wrote on X. “But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back stronger than ever”
