Dog ‘jammed’ under shipping container spurs rescue, California firefighters say
A dog named Finn required help from Southern California firefighters after becoming trapped beneath a shipping container while chasing a rabbit on a walk, officials said.
Finn’s owners called 911 from Ojai at about 7:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, to request help, the Ventura County Fire Department said in a news release on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“So we’re walking home from our walk and the dog chased a rabbit under a shipping container, and now he’s got himself jammed in a space where he can’t get out,” a woman said in the call.
“We tried everything,” she said. “We’ve been at this for almost an hour and a half.”
Firefighters responded, using specialty rescue tools, including inflatable lifting bags, to raise the shipping container to rescue the dog, the agency said.
“Thankfully, Finn was unharmed and firefighters were able to safely get him back to his owners,” firefighters said in the release.
Photos posted by the agency show firefighters raising the shipping container and retrieving Finn.
Ojai is about an 80-mile drive northwest from Los Angeles.
