Dog was stabbed 14 times but never stopped trusting people. She gets fresh start
A dog who is both a fighter and a gentle soul has been given a second chance at happiness after living through a brutal abuse case in Illinois.
Yuki came to PAWS Chicago by way of animal control after she had been brought in with 14 stab wounds, the shelter said in a June 25 video posted on Instagram.
“She had wounds to her face, neck, and back,” the captions in the video said. The shelter showed blurred photos of the puncture wounds all over the little dog’s body. “The violence she experienced was shocking.”
But that’s not what threw shelter staff for a loop — it was the fact that while Yuki was stabbed, she didn’t let it affect her love for people.
“Yuki shocked us - not just the violence she endured, but her willingness to love and trust all over again,” the shelter said in the caption. “Her story may bring up a lot of emotions for you, as it did for us, but we hope she leaves you filled with joy. Because she is living, breathing, joy on four paws.”
The video shows Yuki snuggling, receiving kisses and giving kisses in return, and sleeping on a lap. According to the shelter, there was no internal damage, which they considered a miracle.
The best part of Yuki’s story? She bonded with one of the vet techs at the shelter who fostered her — and ended up being a foster fail.
“She thrived,” the shelter said in the video. “Once she finally healed, she would have started an adoption search. Except she was already home. Now named Bonnie, we couldn’t be happier watching her live her best life.”
