A Mega Millions ticket sold in California won $359,992 and narrowly missed the $695 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The ticket matched five winning numbers, but not the Mega Ball, in the drawing Friday, Dec. 13, the national Mega Millions site said.
California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.
Nobody won the grand prize, which now rises to an estimated $740 million, with a cash option of approximately $343 million, for the next drawing Tuesday, Dec. 17, the site said.
The winning numbers were 36, 43, 52, 58 and 65 with a Mega Ball of 16, the lottery said. The Megaplier was 3x.
The winning California ticket was sold at OK Liquor in Long Beach, the California Lottery said.
Tickets sold in Massachusetts, New York and Vermont also matched five winning numbers, the national lottery site said.
More than 1.2 million other tickets sold in the United States won prizes ranging from $2 to $30,000 in the drawing, the lottery said.
The Mega Millions jackpot has gone unclaimed since Sept. 10, when a Texas player hit the $810 million grand prize, lottery officials said.
