A college junior was found dead in his dorm room at Marshall University, school officials said.

Quinton Bogner died in his dorm “from presumed medical issues” early Sunday, Jan. 29, University President Brad Smith said in a statement. Police do not suspect foul play or substance use in his death.

Bogner was a junior studying secondary education, according to a university spokesperson. He was from Aurora, Missouri.

Weeks before his death, Bogner celebrated his 21st birthday on Dec. 28, according to a post on his mom’s Facebook.

“Your heart’s desire of loving, leading and helping others overflows from you each day,” Brooke Lien wrote in her post. “Your kind, caring, passionate and thoughtful of those around you. We’re proud of you and all the things you’re doing, going for, and becoming!”

Friends and family shared their memories of Bogner on social media following his death.

“We are all heartbroken and at a loss of words,” Bogner’s father, Brett Bogner, said in a Facebook post. “We know that Q impacted so many lives. He will forever be missed.”

“Thank you for putting such an amazing person in my son’s life. I am forever grateful for his friendship,” Charity Parsons, mother of Bogner’s rommate, said in a comment. “Marshall will never be the same and I can promise he will always have a special place within my family.”

“I’ve never met a sweeter soul in my life,” Carly Vickers, who is friend’s with Bogner’s girlfriend, wrote in a comment. “Q was the type of person that always knew how to cheer up a person in the best way. He’s the love of my best friend’s life.”

“He loved learning about people and helping them,” another friend from Marshall posted. “In times that I was down and wouldn’t show, he’d be one of the few to always message me asking me if I’m okay or how he can help. Not many are like that.”

University officials said counseling services were available to anyone on campus who needed them.

Marshall University is in Huntington, West Virginia — about 130 miles east of Lexington, Kentucky.
