Mysterious glowing orbs seen in the night sky over the Pacific Ocean sent San Diego residents dashing online to post photos and videos.

“The weird lights are back!” read one Twitter post about the orbs, seen Monday, Sept. 19.

“Anyone else seeing the strange lights in san diego?” asked another Twitter post.

Jen Harang told KNSD she spotted up to five of the glowing orbs and watched them for about 20 minutes.

“One would fade and then another and then another would pop up. Super weird ... They were very bright,” Harang told the station.

“I just started taking a video and I couldn’t believe what I saw,” Teluryde Dedominicis of Pacific Beach told KFMB.

Both stations reported they were told by the U.S. Coast Guard that the orbs may have been flares from a U.S. Air Force training exercise, but could not confirm that with the Air Force.
