A Georgia singer’s take on a country music classic won over “The Voice” coaches, putting him among the latest slate of vocalists vying to win the national singing competition.

Bryce Leatherwood, 22, of Woodstock, Georgia, belted out a cover of Conway Twitty’s “Goodbye Time” during the blind auditions Tuesday night, Sept. 20. The performance earned him a three-chair turn from veteran coaches Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and John Legend.

“You have excellent taste in music,” said Shelton, who was the first to turn his chair. “I wanted to get my push in before you got to the chorus ... man, I was blown away.”

Newcomer and pop star Camila Cabello also sang Leatherwood’s praises.

“You have an incredible voice,” Cabello said. “There’s just — you have better coaches than me. I just know if I’m like, ‘hey, sing a Bad Bunny song,’ you’re gonna want to kill me. But you are incredibly talented.”

“The Voice” kicked off Season 22 on Monday, Sept. 19, as the coaches lent their ears to a new batch of musicians from across the country.

“You sounded fantastic,” Legend said of Leatherwood. “I heard the richness in your voice. And no matter what genre we sing, it’s about that charisma you have as an artist.”

When it came time to pick a coach, the country music singer chose to take his talents to Team Blake.

“The Voice” airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. local time on NBC.

Woodstock is about 30 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.
