A missing nun from the United States has been found five months after she was abducted in West Africa, reports say.

Sister Suellen Tennyson, 83, was found alive Aug. 29, Marianite Sister Mary Lacour told the Clarion Herald, the official newspaper of the New Orleans Archdiocese.

“She is safe,” Lacour said, according to the Clarion Herald. “She is on American soil, but not in America. She is safe. She was recovered (Monday) morning. We have spoken to her. She eventually will get back to the United States.”

Tennyson, who has ties to New Orleans, was taken from her convent in Yalgo, Burkina Faso sometime between April 4 and 5, McClatchy News previously reported.

She had been stationed as a missionary in Yalgo since 2014.

“We are grateful to God for the safety of Sr Suellen,” New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond wrote in an Aug. 31 Facebook post.

Neither the archdiocese nor the Marianites of Holy Cross immediately responded to McClatchy News’ request for comment.
