13-year-old shot while in car with mom, Colorado police say. ‘That’s my baby’
A Colorado woman was driving down 14th Avenue in Denver with her 13-year-old son when a man “walked into traffic,” authorities said.
She stopped quickly, according to a tweet from the Denver Police Department, but continued driving after the man made his way in front of her car.
“As she drove away, she heard several gunshots directly from behind her vehicle,” police said.
Her 13-year-old son had been hit by one of the shots, according to police.
“(My son) was just like, ‘I’m bleeding, I’m bleeding,’” the mother told Denver 7.
The teen was taken to the hospital for his gunshot wound, which was not “believed to be life-threatening,” 9News reported.
“That’s my baby,” the mother told Denver 7. “Now that I see my car, I’m just thankful that it wasn’t worse.”
Police said they arrested James Katrelle, 22, later that night on Aug. 22, and ”he is being held for investigation of attempted first degree murder.”
