A Texan woke up to find a menacing centipede in bed with them and shared the encounter on Reddit.

“Woke up this morning next to this creature from hell,” the Reddit user u/bleric posted June 28 with a video.

The multi-leg animal was identified as a Texas redheaded centipede by another user, who said, “enjoy your nightmares.”

Texas redheaded centipedes are venomous but not deadly, according to Texas Hill Country. The sting is comparable to a bee and causes swelling. The centipedes can be “confrontational” to humans and sting to defend themselves.

The original poster shared later that they took their comforter and threw the centipede out the door. “They are much bigger looking in real life!!,” the user wrote, sharing another video and photo.

Averaging 6.5 inches, the Texas redheaded centipede is the largest centipede in North America and can grow between 9 and 12 inches long, reported Texas Hill Country. The species is also called the giant desert centipede and scolopendra heros.

One of the most popular comments on the post read, “I would have simply passed away.”
