Woman attacked in shower fights off hatchet-wielding intruder, California police say

A woman taking a shower fought off a stranger carrying a hatchet inside her Bakersfield home, California police say.

Kyler Kuehl, 59, of Bakersfield, faces charges including attempted murder, attempted rape, assault and burglary in the Friday, June 17, incident, police said in a news release.

Armed with a hatchet, Kuehl entered a home in the 3200 block of Park Bend Court at about 4 p.m. and attacked a woman taking a shower inside, police said.

As she struggled with Kuehl in her bathroom, a man arrived home and helped restrain him, the release said. The man called police, who arrived and arrested Kuehl.

The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information call 661-327-7111.

Bakersfield is a city of 400,000 in Kern County north of Los Angeles.
