3-year-old boy struck and killed by bus while playing outside, Illinois officials say
A 3-year-old boy was struck and killed by a school bus in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois officials say.
Police in Cary were dispatched around 3:40 p.m. on Monday, May 16, after the accident involving the bus and young child, according to a news release.
The 3-year-old boy was playing outside and wandered into the street, where the bus struck him, according to Deputy Chief Scott Naydenoff. The boy, who has not been publicly identified, died at the scene, police said.
Only one student was on board the bus at the time of the crash, according to Naydenoff. The driver and student were uninjured.
Police in Cary continue to investigate the incident, but no charges are expected to be filed, according to the deputy chief.
Cary is about 45 miles northwest of Chicago.
