Missing 1-year-old found dead in creek a mile from where he vanished, Michigan cops say

The body of a 1-year-old boy was found in a creek on Monday, May 2, nearly 24 hours after he went missing, Michigan cops say.

Authorities in Kent County said Noah Jordan was last seen in Byron Township around 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 1. Crews searched for Noah using air, land and water methods, but the search was made complicated by the creek “flowing higher and faster than normal,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Noah’s body was found around 9 a.m. Monday in Buck Creek, which is about a mile from where he went missing.

It’s unclear how Noah ended up in the creek, but a WOOD-TV reporter said he went missing from his home. A cause of death has not been determined.

“Oftentimes, kids just wander away,” Sgt. Eric Brunner told WOOD-TV before Noah’s body was found. “One minute you see them and one minute you don’t, so there’s nothing to lead us to believe that there was anything suspicious or criminal in nature.”

Sheriff officials said their “hearts are with the family and friends,” adding that they will “continue to support” Noah’s family.

Byron Township is about 10 miles south of Grand Rapids.
