Jokes erupt after 911 calls about sinkhole lead to actual sink on Louisiana roadway
All manner of bad jokes are showing up on social media after 911 calls about a “large sinkhole” led Louisiana cops to an actual sink and countertop in the road.
It happened on Main Street East in Zachary, just north of Baton Rouge, and the Zachary Police Department still doesn’t have an explanation.
“Motorists reported that there were several narrowly avoided crashes as drivers attempted to navigate around a large sinkhole in the roadway,” the department said in a news release posted on Facebook.
“Officers responded to the area and were unable to locate any sinkholes. They did however find a whole sink in the roadway. Like a whole sink with a counter top, faucets ... the whole nine yards.”
Officers removed the sink from the road, but its fate was not released.
“No pictures were taken, sadly. But imagine two officers doubled over laughing next to a sink in the roadway,” the department added.
“We are thankful that no one was harmed and appreciate the humor in this miscommunication.”
How it got there remains a mystery, but police said it was found near a Home Depot, and some suggest it was a recent purchase that fell off a truck.
Hundreds of people have reacted and commented on the Facebook post, including multiple jokes involving the adage “everything but the kitchen sink.”
“Who was driving along and didn’t notice that they lost their sink?” Laurice A. Teague asked.
“Well a sink does have a hole!” Donna Carol added.
“Somebody’s not washing the dishes tonight,” Angel Wallace said.
