Hilton Head man sentenced to 108 months in child pornography case

A Hilton Head Island man was sentenced in a Charleston federal court to 108 months in prison Tuesday on child pornography possession charges, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles.

David Christman Berg, Jr., 55, was also ordered by U.S. district judge Margaret B. Seymour to serve a lifetime term of supervised release once he leaves prison, the release said.

An undercover FBI agent found child pornography images posted by Berg on the Internet in April 2012, the release said.

Agents seized computers and thumb drives from Berg’s residence in 2012 that contained about 14,000 images and 41 videos featuring child pornography, including content involving prepubescent minors and sadistic and masochistic conduct, the release said.

Berg was interviewed and admitted that he possessed child pornography, the release said.

The case was investigated by the FBI. Assistant United States Attorney Dean H. Secor prosecuted the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Justice Department in May 2006 to combat child exploitation and abuse. For more information, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
