SC woman knows how she’ll spend her six-figure, lottery-winning jackpot

A Midlands woman already has plans for how she’ll spend the six-figure jackpot she won on a scratch-off game, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.

The Sumter woman said she’ll use her $200,000 windfall from a Win Big ticket to pay off her home and buy a new car, lottery officials said Thursday in a news release.

“First I’m paying off my house,” the winner said in the release. “Then I’m getting my dream car.”

There was no word what type of car she plans to buy.

The woman’s name was not released because South Carolina is one of eight states — along with Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and Texas — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

The winning scratch-off game was bought for $5 at the Refuel on Manning Avenue, officials said. That’s in the south Sumter area, near the intersection with Pocalla Road.

The gas station/convenience store received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed winning ticket, according to the release.

The woman said she waited until she got home to scratch off the game, lottery officials said. It was while standing in her yard that she realized there was a match between the prize she revealed and the winning numbers at the top of the ticket.

When the woman saw the $200,000 prize she called her family, and they rushed over to celebrate and see the winning ticket for themselves.

“It was nice,” she said.

Lottery officials said the odds of winning $200,000 in Win Big were 1-in-660,000, and one top prize remains unclaimed.
