21-year-old killed in Ridgeland wreck Thursday evening

One person is dead after a two-car collision Thursday in Ridgeland.

Lundu Cruz-Jimenez, 21, was killed in the crash about 6 p.m., according to Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward.

The wreck happened on Argent Boulevard at the intersection of Short Cut Road, Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls said Friday morning.

That intersection is along a section of road between U.S 278 and S.C 170.

The Hardeeville Police Department is investigating the crash.

“Officers believe (Cruz-Jimenez) did not see the other vehicle and she was broadsided,” Woodward said Friday, citing a preliminary accident report.

Woodward described the other vehicle as a truck, but was unable to specify what type.

The male driver of that truck was uninjured, Woodward said.

Cruz-Jimenez, who police believe was a Ridgeland resident, was driving alone when her car was struck, he said.

She was likely killed instantly and pronounced dead on the scene of the crash, Woodward said.

Police are in the process of investigating the crash and expect to have more information in the coming days.
