A 52-year-old Beaufort man died from his injuries Saturday after his motorcycle collided with a car on S.C. 170 in Beaufort County, according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office and S.C. Highway Patrol.

Robert Patterson was traveling east on S.C. 170 on his 1989 Harley Davidson motorcycle around 2:20 a.m., when he struck a westbound 2000 Honda Accord attempting to make a left turn, Deputy Coroner David Ott and a patrolman said.

Patterson was not wearing a helmet and was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he died of injuries sustained in the collision.

The driver of the Accord was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, the patrolman said. Two other passengers were also unharmed.

The collision remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
