Pedestrian killed on U.S. 17 identified
A man struck and killed on U.S. 17 early Saturday morning has been identified as Jawan Raynard Boatright, 33, of Savannah according to Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls II.
The accident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. about a mile from the Georgia state line, according to Sgt. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Boatwright was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a Jeep Cherokee traveling south, Beres said. The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
