Yemassee man killed in vehicle accident

A Yemassee man was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Jasper County near the Hampton County line on Friday afternoon, officials say.

Jason Dempsey was killed in the accident on Rivers Hill Road, Hampton County coroner Ernie Washington said.

Dempsey was traveling west in a 2000 Chevrolet pickup when his truck went off the left side of the road and overturned around 3:15 p.m., according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C. Highway Department.

Dempsey was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck, Collins said. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The accident was not related to any winter weather, Collins said.
