Drivers beware New Year's road patrols

Motorists traveling for New Year's Eve should proceed with caution, as the S.C. Highway Patrol and local law enforcement will increase traffic patrols and be on the lookout for speeding and impaired driving.

While the patrol does not announce road checkpoints, drivers should be prepared to see more troopers on U.S. 278, U.S. 17 coming out of Savannah and on Interstate 95, according to Lance Cpl. Hannah Wimberly.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office will increase patrols throughout the county, according to Capt. Bob Bromage.
