One killed in wreck on Hilton Head Island

One person is dead after a single-car collision on Hilton Head Island.

The SC Highway Patrol reported that the driver of a 2005 Dodge Magnum died after the car went off the left side of Birdsong Way in Hilton Head Plantation and struck a tree.

Highway Patrol spokeswoman Lance Cpl. Hannah Wimberly said the wreck occurred around 2:10 p.m. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, she said.

The driver's identity was not immediately available from the Beaufort County Coroner's Office pending notification of next of kin.
