Update: U.S. 278 West open again after wreck near USCB Gateway campus

Traffic is again flowing westbound on US 278 after a morning crash near the USCB Gateway campus required both lanes to be closed. This story will be updated.

Update: 8:50 a.m.:

Westbound traffic on U.S. 278 now is being diverted at D. Mark Cummings Road opposite the USC Beaufort Gateway campus after an earlier wreck closed the highway completely.

Both westbound lanes on U.S. 278 near the Wal-Mart and USCB Gateway campus are closed this morning after a car crash.

The eastbound lanes were initially closed and opened up by 8 a.m.

No information has been released about the circumstances of the crash.

Drivers should avoid the area.
