DOT to pick up trash on U.S. 278 median
If you have driven along U.S. 278 in Bluffton over the past couple of days, you have likely noticed the freshly mowed median is strewn with trash along several stretches of the road.
S.C. Department of Transportation spokesman James Law said Wednesday the department, which maintains the median, was previously unaware of the issue, but will begin clean-up efforts in the coming days.
It appears that the trash was buried within the grass along the median and was strewn about during recent mowing.
"In a perfect world, we want to pick the trash up before (the grass is) cut. It makes it ten times harder to pick up once the trash is all cut up," Law said. "But when we use contractors, it sometimes doesn't work out that way, and we have to go back through and clean up."
