Congestion extends miles on I-95 in Hardeeville area, officials say

Midday traffic on both sides of Interstate 95 slowed to a crawl after a crash in the Hardeeville area, officials say.

As of 12:15 p.m. Friday, congestion on I-95’s northbound lanes began at the South Carolina-Georgia border and extended several miles north. The average speed in the area was 28 mph, according to traffic data from the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

And north of Hardeeville, camera views showed significant traffic jams on the interstate’s southbound lanes, with an average speed of 22 mph around noon Friday. That congestion cleared up around 12:30 p.m., according to SCDOT cameras.

The Hardeeville Police Department asked southbound drivers to “use caution” near the interstate’s 6-mile marker due to a collision around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Drivers in the area should exercise caution and seek alternate routes if possible.
