Update: I-95 traffic woes persist after ‘incident’ near SC-GA border

A multi-hour traffic slowdown has bled into Tuesday afternoon on northbound Interstate 95 near the Georgia-South Carolina border.

“Significant delays” were likely on northbound I-95 due to an “incident” in South Carolina, according to an alert sent around 10:45 a.m. from the Chatham Emergency Management Agency. It was not immediately clear what incident the message was referring to.

Traffic camera views showed motorists crawling on northbound I-95 near the Georgia-South Carolina border, where construction in the area has shuttered the right lane of the interstate.

As of 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, the resulting traffic delays had extended south past I-95’s junction with Georgia State Route 21, according to live traffic data from the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Traffic cameras show drivers returning to a normal speed shortly after crossing into South Carolina.

Drivers should seek alternate routes if possible, CEMA said Tuesday morning.
