Trucks collide with lift carrying workers in Bluffton area, officials say

State troopers were responding to a reported collision between two trucks and a lift carrying at least one worker in the Moss Creek community late Wednesday morning, according to officials and dispatch audio.

Two trucks “possibly hit workers on a lift” in the Bluffton-area gated neighborhood around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, dispatchers said. South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesperson Nick Pye said troopers had been requested to respond to the incident near the intersection of Moss Creek Drive and Toppin Drive.

Callers told authorities the lift was “on its side” following the collision, according to Stephen Combs of the Bluffton Township Fire District. At least one person was being transported by ground to a local hospital, he said. Dispatchers said one patient was unconscious.

The collision had shut down Moss Creek Drive as of noon Wednesday, officials said, although it was unclear which portions of the roadway were closed.
