2 p.m. update: Interstate 95 congestion continues in Jasper County
Congestion on Interstate 95 in Jasper County continued into Friday afternoon as the result of post-holiday travel and several traffic collisions.
As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, I-95 backups extended nearly 15 miles from south of the Georgia border to mile marker 17 south of Ridgeland, according to live traffic data from the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The average speed on southbound I-95 was 22 mph as an “incident” near mile marker 11 reduced traffic to the right lane only.
With an average speed of 25 mph, northbound lanes of the interstate were backed up near Hardeeville and the Georgia border.
Traffic data also showed congestion on U.S. 17 (Speedway Boulevard) heading into Savannah.
Post-holiday travelers should exercise caution and expect delays in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
