One person killed after vehicle collides with tree in northern Beaufort County
One person was killed in a single-car collision Wednesday night in the Seabrook area, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday as a 2005 Honda sedan drove north on U.S. 21 (Trask Parkway) near its intersection with Detour Road.
The Honda drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree, Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the SCHP said. The male driver, who was the only person inside the vehicle, was entrapped in the car and had to be extricated by fire crews, according to an incident report from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver was flown by a medical helicopter to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Staff at the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office had not identified the deceased driver as of Thursday morning.
The northbound lanes of Trask Parkway were closed for over two hours following the collision, according to the Burton Fire District, who also responded to the scene.
Collision data ranks Trask Parkway as one of the most dangerous roadways in Beaufort County.
This report will be updated.
