Pedestrian struck by SUV in downtown Beaufort, officials say

A pedestrian was taken to the hospital after being struck by a car Friday morning in downtown Beaufort, officials say.

The male was hit by an SUV around 10:15 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Carteret and Port Republic streets, according to the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department.

He was treated on scene and taken to a local hospital with “potentially serious injuries,” according to the fire department’s Deputy Chief of Administration Ross Vezin.

Vehicle traffic was blocked off in the area for about 30 minutes following the collision, Vezin said. As of 11:30 a.m., traffic was flowing normally.
