Car brings down power pole off Okatie Highway, slows traffic near SC 462 outlet
A totaled SUV was towed from the intersection of S.C. 170 and S.C. 462 after crashing into a power pole Wednesday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Troopers briefly blocked off all traffic between the two highways after the collision around 3 p.m. Wednesday. One lane of Lowcountry Drive reopened around 4 p.m., according to SCHP spokesperson Nick Pye.
The extent of the driver’s injuries was unknown.
Photos from the scene showed the vehicle overturned at the intersection’s median, feet away from a low-hanging power line and its traffic signal that drooped onto the pavement.
Google Maps traffic data showed significant traffic backups on both highways as of 3:45 p.m. Commuters heading between Beaufort, Bluffton and Jasper County should expect delays or avoid the area.
This report will be updated.
