Muscle car driver killed in Jasper County crash Tuesday evening, Highway Patrol says

An unidentified driver was killed in a single-car crash Tuesday evening outside Ridgeland, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the SCHP said the driver was the sole occupant of a 2010 Dodge Challenger that crashed around 8:05 p.m. Tuesday as it headed northeast on Bees Creek Road.

While passing the area of Crabapple Lane — located about two miles northeast of downtown Ridgeland — the muscle car ran off the left side of the road, hit a ditch and then struck a tree, according to the SCHP release.

Bees Creek Road runs northeast-southwest through central Jasper County, connecting I-95 to Coosaw Scenic Drive (S.C. 462). In the area of Tuesday’s fatal crash, the route has a speed limit of 55 mph.

Data from the Highway Patrol shows 18 people were killed on Jasper County roadways last year, with the majority of fatal crashes occurring in the Hardeeville area or remote, rural roads with little to no streetlight coverage.

The Jasper County Coroner’s Office had not identified the deceased driver as of Thursday.
