29-year-old Jasper County woman killed after car overturned, caught fire on back road

A 29-year-old woman from Pineland was killed after her car ran off a remote county road and caught fire Saturday night, according to the Jasper County Coroner’s Office.

Bria Williams, previously a resident of Ridgeland, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Coroner Willie P. Aiken. Her autospy is scheduled for Thursday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The fatal crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. Saturday as Williams’ 2004 Nissan Sentra traveled west on Rivers Hill Road, which runs through northwestern Jasper County into Hampton County. Near Garvin Road, she passed over the central yellow line and over-corrected, sending the car off the right side of the road, where it struck a ditch, overturned and caught fire, according to Sgt. Tyler Tidwell of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Williams attended Ridgeland-Hardeeville High School, now known as the Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence, and also studied at the University of South Carolina, according to her public social media profiles. An obituary or funeral arrangements had not been publicly available as of Monday.

SCHP and the Jasper County Coroner’s Office are investigating the deadly collision.
