Accident near Hilton Head bridges stalls traffic onto island Tuesday morning, police say

Traffic onto Hilton Head had slowed to a crawl Tuesday morning following a collision near the bridges around 7:30 a.m., according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash briefly blocked the left eastbound lane of U.S. 278 as emergency crews towed a badly damaged vehicle. As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, from the crash extended from the Tanger 2 Outlets in mainland Bluffton to the Windmill Harbor entrance on Hilton Head.

No significant injuries were reported as of Tuesday morning.
