It’s not just water under the bridge. Pipeline inspections around the Broad River and Lemon Island could slow traffic between Beaufort and Bluffton this weekend, according to the Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority.

The rightmost northbound lane of S.C. 170 was closed in the area south of Lemon Island Bridge beginning Tuesday morning. Individual lane closures will continue “during daylight hours” in that area and near the Broad River Bridge until Friday, according to the BJWSA press release.

Contracted work crews will be inspecting and repairing pipes running under the two bridges, which carry water between the northern and southern halves of the county.

Work on the water mains had not significantly impacted traffic as of 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, although jams could likely occur during rush hours throughout the week.

Drivers should use caution when traveling through the area and allow leeway for potential delays.
