Going to or from Hilton Head? Updates to new traffic signal at Windmill Harbor

Drivers going to Hilton Head Island from Bluffton on U.S. 278 will see a flashing sign warning them of the upcoming Windmill Harbor traffic lights starting Feb. 1.

Beaufort County installed the traffic lights in October, stopping drivers traveling over the bridge and giving Windmill Harbor residents a reprise from the near-constant stream of traffic during rush hour as they turn into the community. A left turn arrow into Windmill Harbor is also set to activate Feb. 1, further helping those residents turn.

Starting Feb. 1, 2024 additional yellow flashing lights will warn drivers headed eastbound on U.S. 278 to recently installed traffic signals at Crosstree Drive and William Hilton Parkway on Jenkins Island.

The flashing warning sign is about 500 feet before the traffic lights and will help alert drivers of the upcoming stop.
