6-car crash on Broad River Bridge halts rush hour traffic from Beaufort to Bluffton

A crash on the Broad River Bridge Monday afternoon has halted rush hour traffic from Beaufort to Bluffton, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident took place just after 4:30 p.m. toward the center of the bridge, blocking all westbound lanes of S.C. 170. Six cars were involved in the crash, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maj. Angela Viens, but no injuries were reported.

Traffic backups extended past Ashton Overlook Drive as of 4:50 p.m., according to Google Maps traffic data. A long alternate route could be taken through Yemassee onto I-95.

All lanes of the highway had reopened as of 5:20 p.m., according to Viens.
