Two weekend parades will impact traffic. How to avoid closed roads and getting towed
Bluffton’s Christmas Parade
Roads will begin to be blocked off starting at 8:00 a.m. Saturday for Bluffton’s annual Christmas parade. To avoid travel delays, drivers should avoid Old Town Bluffton. Anyone who regularly parks a car along these roads should avoid doing so Saturday morning. The town is not allowing vehicles to be parked along these roads. If vehicles aren’t moved by 7:00 a.m. Saturday, the town will have them towed at the owner’s expense.
The following streets will be inaccessible until the parade has concluded:
- Bridge St.
- Calhoun St. from Bridge to May River Road
- May River Road from Calhoun St. to Pin Oak St.
- Pin Oak St. from May River Road to 9th Avenue
There isn’t set a time for the parade to end, because “it’s usually hard to predict,” according to Debbie Szpanka, spokesperson for the town. Under ideal conditions, the parade has ended around 1:30 p.m., she said.
However, this year rain is expected, which is likely to impact the duration of the parade, Szpanka added.
Beaufort’s Christmas Parade
The City of Beaufort’s parade is scheduled for Sunday at 3:00 p.m., but the city will like start closing roads about 15 minutes early, according to Cpt. Jason Day of the Beaufort Police Department.
The following streets will be inaccessible until the parade has concluded:
- Boundary St. from Hamar St to Carteret St.
- Carteret St. to Bay St.
- Bay St. to Adventure St.
The parade is expected to wrap up around 5:00 p.m., Day said.
Cars legally parked along this parade route will not be towed, but may be stuck during the duration of the parade. However, Day said if it’s needed and possible the police department may be able to assist in getting parked cars out of the route.
