21-year-old Ridgeland woman killed in crash with garbage truck in Jasper County Tuesday

21-year-old Ridgeland woman Jasmine Wright was killed Tuesday afternoon after she lost control of her Toyota and collided with a garbage truck off S.C. 170 in Jasper County.

The fatal crash happened around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday as Wright was driving her 2009 Camry east on Snake Rd, which connects S.C. 170 with S.C. 462. Just before Okatie Hwy, the car spun into the center of the road, crashing into a Capital Waste Services garbage truck driving in the opposite direction, according to Master Trooper Gary Miller of the SC Highway Patrol.

Wright was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Jasper County Coroner Willie P. Aiken III. She was not wearing a seat belt. An autopsy has not yet been scheduled.

The driver of the garbage truck was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Tuesday’s crash is under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol and the Jasper County Coroner’s Office.
