Ruptured water line closes portion of SC 170 in Beaufort Tuesday morning, police say
Damage from a ruptured main water line on Beaufort’s S.C. 170 near Walmart has closed the left westbound lane of the highway and is expected to slow traffic Tuesday morning, according to the Beaufort County Sheriffs’ Office.
Westbound traffic will also be detoured through the median by police. Drivers heading toward Bluffton on the highway could experience delays in the area.
Construction workers along the highway near W.K. Alston Drive accidentally struck the pipe just before 5:30 p.m. Monday, the Sheriff’s Office says. Repair crews from the Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) worked throughout Monday night and are continuing efforts Tuesday morning.
Traffic on the highway was flowing normally as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. An estimated finish time for the repairs to S.C. 170 was not immediately available.
