SC 170 crash near Beaufort Walmart leaves car in ditch and one person headed to hospital

A crash on S.C. 170 in front of the Walmart store in Beaufort injured at least one person and was blocking both westbound lanes of the highway Tuesday afternoon, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office announced in an alert.

The three-car accident took place around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Robert Smalls Parkway and Parris Island Gateway. At least one person was taken from the scene in an ambulance, and one car appears to have veered from a southbound lane of a highway into the roadside ditch.

Both southbound lanes of the highway were closed as of 3:00 p.m. as first responder crews responded to the scene. Traffic was being averted around the accident.

Lane closures were creating slowdowns on the northernmost portions of Robert Smalls Parkway as of 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. Afternoon commuters in Beaufort should expect delays.

Additional information about injuries in the three-car crash was not immediately available.
