5-vehicle crash in Port Royal Thursday morning shuts down all eastbound traffic on SC 170

A crash Thursday morning on Savannah Highway and S.C. 170 blocked all eastbound traffic heading toward Beaufort, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office alert.

By about noon Thursday, the crash had cleared and traffic was flowing normally.

The crash involved five vehicles and injured at least three people who were being taken to the hospital, said Chief Ross Vezin with the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department. Vezin said he did not know the medical condition of any of those being transported.

Traffic was being directed down Savannah Highway, and all eastbound traffic lanes were blocked by the crash and emergency responder vehicles. Both lanes heading into Beaufort were expected to be closed for 35 to 45 minutes, Vezin said.
