Hit-and-run crash in Beaufort causes traffic backup at SC 170 and Parris Island Gateway

Both lanes blocked on S.C. 170 near Parris Island Gateway in Beaufort following a crash Tuesday afternoon have opened back up as of 3:52 p.m., according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Only one lane of traffic was flowing after the crash, which was a hit-and-run, said Maj. Angela Viens, a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. Both the left lane and a turning lane heading west had been blocked.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
