Flipped mobile home blocks traffic on U.S. 278 in Beaufort and Jasper counties

A flipped mobile home on a Hardeeville highway is impacting midday traffic Thursday in Beaufort and Jasper Counties, according to officials.

The mobile home, which appears to be half of a double-wide home, fell onto U.S. 278 just before 11 a.m., blocking the left westbound lane of the highway, according to an alert sent from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Traffic is being directed across the remaining westbound lane as emergency crews respond to the incident. Drivers in Hardeeville and the Okatie area of Beaufort County should expect backups for the next several hours, according to the sheriff’s office.

The truck that was transporting the mobile home does not appear to have flipped.

Officials from the Hardeeville Police Department, which is responding to the incident, could not immediately be reached for comment.
